Candle Care
We want you to get the most out of your candles while staying safe! If not used properly, candles can be a fire hazard, so here are some simple guidelines to help you enjoy them responsibly.
Before Lighting Your Candle
- Trim the Wick: Always trim the wick to about 5 mm (1/4 inch) before lighting. This helps prevent uneven burning, flickering, and excessive soot, while also making sure your candle lasts longer and the scent fills the room better. A wick trimmer works best for this!
- Find a Safe Spot: Place your candle on a heat-resistant surface and away from anything that could catch fire—like furniture, books, or curtains.
- Keep Away from Kids and Pets: Make sure your candle is in a spot where it can’t be knocked over by little hands or paws.
Tips for the Best Burn
- First Burn is Key: On the first time you light your candle, let it burn long enough for the melted wax to reach the edges of the container—this ensures an even burn and prevents "tunneling."
- Limit Burn Time: For safety, don’t burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time.
- Watch the Flame: If the wick flickers or the flame gets too big, that’s a sign the candle isn’t burning right. Extinguish it, trim the wick, and light it again once it’s cooled.
While Your Candle is Burning
- Never Leave It Unattended: Always keep an eye on your candle while it's burning.
- No Sleeping with a Candle Lit: Never leave a candle burning while you sleep.
- Stop Before It’s Gone: Stop using your candle when there’s about 10 mm of wax left. Burning it all the way down can overheat the container.
After Burning Your Candle
- Put It Out Safely: Don’t use water to put out your candle—use a snuffer instead to safely extinguish the flame.
- Let It Cool: Wait for your candle to cool completely before moving it.
- Store It Right: Keep your candles in a cool, dry, and dark place, away from direct sunlight.
- Keep It Clean: Dust can build up on candles, so give them a quick clean if needed before lighting them again.
